Toca Stanton Rocchi passed away peacefully today at Maple Hills Animal Hospital. Toca came to our family in the fall of 2005. She was adopted from the very same Maple Hills Animal Hospital that she returned to today. Mike and I remember our first impression of Toca. We already had our cat Mraz and felt he needed a companion. Maple Hills called and said they had two kittens up for adoption. Upon meeting the two cats, we instantly knew which one we wanted to take home with us. Toca was shy, calm, and hiding underneath a chair as compared to the other kitten who was racing all around the room. Toca also had a big cut on her back leg so we knew she had a rough start to her life and knew we wanted to help her have a good life with us.
We took Toca to our home in Allentown and didn't see her for about six months! She was very skittish and scared and spent a lot of time underneath our bed. Slowly over time she became best friends with Mraz and what I call, our adoption success story. Toca was very loving - she gave the best leg rubs ever. Almost every day when I got to school I had to take a lint roller and get all of the Toca hair off of my calves from her rubbing against me that morning. She absolutely loved to be petted and had a great purr. She also liked to rub her face against everything. Toca loved the sun and would often times be seen laying in our sun room in the little rectangle of sun coming through the trees. She loved the twins and the twins loved her right back. She would often times come back to Cameron's room while we were reading bedtime stories and do a few laps around our small circle, leaning into each person almost as if to say good night. She was a gentle, loving soul and she will be dearly missed.
Upon telling Cameron and Allie about Toca being sick and going to heaven, they had some very sweet questions:
Allie: "When Toca is better, will she come back from heaven?"
Cameron: "Can we drive to heaven? Did Toca take a plane to heaven?"
Our house seems very empty this evening. We miss you, Toca!
