10 Days of Small Town Living

  We just returned from 10 days of staying with my dad.  It was so nice to be there and have one last adventure before the school year begins.  I was again reminded of how beautiful Bradford County is.  I also really enjoyed all of the small town social events we were able to attend this summer.  Maybe it was just me but it seemed like everyone was a bit happier at our traditional summertime events.  I think we all missed these fun get togethers!

 Our friends, the Pitcavages, came for the first few days.  We had so much fun spending time with our favorite Danville family!

If this doesn't scream summer, I don't know what does!

 Jim and I are always looking for cool things to attend.  I spotted a sign that advertised the historic French Asylum was having their Civil War weekend.  With a little bit of persuasion, Jim and I got everyone to go!

We were there for a few canon firings!

It was LOUD!

 We headed back to my dads and took the Pitcavages to the gravel pit to do some climbing!

I got the girls to the halfway point.  Jim and Cam made it to the top and enjoyed eating blackberries!

 Mike took the kids down to the creek while Liz and I relaxed in the pool....they had an awesome time!

The kids were loving the swimming hole....

...until they realized they were sharing it with a turtle!

 Grampa Carr's pond was a super fun spot to visit.

Jack and Cam tried out the tube.

They found the island!  When they built my grandfather's pond, they tried to put an island near the middle of the pond.  The island wasn't quite high enough and got covered up when they filled it with water.  We were pretty excited when we found it!

Liz took the jet skit out and it stopped running....in the middle of the pond.  Her brave son chose to swim a paddle out to her.

Rescue mission complete!

 We also got to visit our good friends, the Gromleys.  The kids spent an afternoon playing in their crick!

We were looking for crawfish -- and we found them!

 Now on the entire reason why we came up for the week...the Wyalusing Carnival!  This marked year 37 for my dad to participate in this parade!

He told us the story of the tractor he chose to put in the parade the other day….

“50 years ago your grandfather (Frank Carr) purchased this tractor. It was being brought into Wyalusing on the railroad and I told him I would go to the delivery and drive it home. Your mother was catching a ride home with a friend from Mansfield that weekend and I asked her if she could meet me in town and drive my truck home. She said, “I want to ride the tractor home with you!” She climbed up on that tractor with her beautiful long hair and we drove it home.”

Main Street, Wyalusing

My dad LOVES this parade!

Cam and I caught up with my dad driving the wagon home.  Dad always says this is the best part of the parade -- driving it home up the mountain!

 We then hit the carnival.  It was very well attended and I hope the firemen made a lot of money!

The kids got me on the Hustler!!

 The fireworks were great!

The funnel cake was yummy!

And the kids came home with 21 prizes!!!  Thanks to Bah-Bah for financing our night out!

 Back to the pool.  Cam had it at 94 degrees all week long!

 Nighttime side-by-side riding is always a great time.  The night was beautiful and the deer were out!

One of the gas pads was under operation while we were there.  Love the deer standing right in front of it!

 We headed down to the Haystacks again this year. 

Allie asked, "Mommy, why is it called Dutchman Falls?  Did a Dutchman fall over the falls?"  Great question!

The last time the twins did this, they were 7!!  It was steep and they did an awesome job!

 There was a really nice older man who told me I had to sit on the falls....I hadn't worn my bathing suit but I couldn't let this opportunity go by!

And gave me a little concert!

We've called this the "Summer of Allie".   She's gotten so much more self-confident and has taken on things that she never would have done last summer.

 Back to the pond for a bit...

Cam did an awesome job at driving both the boat and the side-by-side this week.  I could get used to being driven around by my son!

 I got HOT and decided to try out the tube....

Emma was a little concerned for me.

 We hung out with my cousin Shauna and her son Jackson.  We checked out the barn for a bit.

 The twins started making a fort at my dads.  Super fun -- but lots of poison ivy!

Allie is getting ready for school - she built a desk for herself to sit at!

Nighttime swimming is the best.

 We headed back down to the creek behind my dad's house.  I wanted to see the swimming hole the twins had discovered earlier in the week!

We took Little Emma along.

This tree had been across the creek when we were down here last -- a ton of water must have some through and pushed them to the side -- crazy!

Who needs to travel to a State Park?  We have beautiful waterfalls in little old Wilmot Township!

Emma was a little uncertain.  She doesn't have much experience with swimming!

This spot was a little too deep for Allie - thankful Daddy was there to transport her!

 Emma was so cute here - she used this log to get up and over a tricky spot!

We made it to the end of the creek....it all starts from a little trickle of water coming down this stone wall.

 We checked out Founder's Day at Dushore.  This is home to the infamous Outhouse Races!

 And finally....my niece Lily got married on August 14th - it was a beautiful day to see her and Braeden get married!

 Mike had headed home to play in his annual Softball Tournament so my dad was my date to the wedding. After we left the wedding, we ended the evening with checking out his deer plot...

 ....and a little bit of spotlighting!
