Lego City News/COVID-19 Slide

Summer Slide, COVID-19 slide...whatever you want to call it but it is a real thing.  The twins have forgotten or gotten shaky on some important things since schools closed in March.  I am not panicking - no really, I'm not!  But it's a little alarming to see things that were so easy for them a few months ago now be a bit of a challenge.

I know kiddos are resilient and I am impressed day to day to see how well the twins are coping with this pandemic (much better than their mother!!!). Allie was shopping for a backpack the other day (yes, we're getting them!) and the one she picked out has a patch on it that says, "Best Year Ever".  Allie turned to me and said, "That's why I want this one.  I know it's going to be a little different but that's what's going to make it the best year ever."  I just smiled but inside my heart was breaking.

Anyway -- these lucky/unlucky children have two parents who are teachers and are able to be home with them all day every day.  This was of NO HELP during remote learning - but summer living has made it a bit easier to work and support their learning in hopes of getting them ready for 3rd grade -- whatever that may look like.

Per the recommendation of a friend, we got the Brain Quest summer workbook.  I've always loved Brain Quest and this book is so well done.  The twins are enjoying doing the activities -- every time they finish one, they get a sticker to add to their map.  We're almost to the moon!

Allie and I worked on one of the outside challenges together while Cam and Michael went fishing with a friend.  I love this assignment -- recommend it to all teachers and parents out there looking for something to help our kiddos learn and be outside!

So outside Allie and I went...we walked around our yard thinking about what our headline and article could be.  We had lots of ideas -- and I came up with the following....

Allie took the picture with her polaroid camera -- it came out pretty dark but it's a picture of a spot in our yard that Allie and I think the pool would fit in perfectly. :)

Allie was struggling to come up with a story about the outside....so we came in...and she asked if she could make a story up with her LEGOS.  I said of course!!!  So here is her story -- she created all of the scenes, I took the pictures.  She came up with the title and the story - I did the typing.  This was super fun and I'm so proud of her -- she has the most amazing imagination and stellar Lego skills!!

Villains Come Through Portal

In Lego City, two villains came through a portal.  The heroes heard it on the news so they went to the park and started to fight to protect their city.  KAPOW!!!  The heroes are winning!

Now the villains are winning!  The park is usually a beautiful spot to be on a summer day but is being destroyed by the villains.  What will the heroes do?

Spiderman was relaxing nearby in a tree when he heard the fighting.  Spiderman comes to save the heroes by squirting a sticky web out onto the bad guys.

Thanks to Spiderman, the heroes got out and called the police.  The villains are captured!

The police come in their helicopter.

They wait for the police to get out.

The heroes say hello to the police and thanks for coming!

The police get out and they begin to talk about what happened.

The police take the bad guys into the helicopter.

 The police take off.

The two heroes go home.  Spiderman returns to his tree.

THE END

Cam had a pretty good day, too!
